University on the Square: Documenting Egypt’s 21st Century Revolution

University on the Square: Documenting Egypt’s 21st Century Revolution is a participatory archives project that relies on collaborations between archivists and students, faculty, IT staff, and administrators at the American University in Cairo to document the January 25th Revolution.

As the Digital Collections Archivist in the Rare Books and Special Collections Library (RBSCL) at the American University in Cairo (AUC), I am responsible for capturing, describing, and publishing content collected by the RBSCL faculty, staff, and project volunteers. I coordinate with the University Archivist & Director to gather digital photographs, print and physical ephemera, videos, original art, written testimonies, and oral histories. These items are housed in the AUC’s digital library. Additionally, I work with faculty in various departments to collect student and faculty scholarly communications related to the January 25th Revolution. Academic contributions to the University on the Square project are housed in AUC’s institutional repository and wiki. Finally, I capture blogs, twitter feeds, news, and political websites AUC’s web archive.

Project documentation may be found in the University on the Square: Documenting Egypt’s 21st Century Revolution AUCwiki article.
